Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has, this week, seen his odds of becoming the first managerial casualty of the season slashed by betting sites.

And now there's talk of his replacement.

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is currently in ‘pole position’ to take the United job if Carrick is sacked in the coming months.

The report also states there has been initial contact to assess Conte's availability.

Conte has been out of work since leaving Napoli at the end of last season. It has been suggested that he would return to the Italy national team, but that position has since been filled by Roberto Mancini.

The Athletic have reported that Rio Ngumoha’s future is something for incoming Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward to address.

As the young winger turned 18 last month, it means Liverpool need to get him committed to a long-term contract beyond the maximum three-year first pro deal he signed last September.

While, Ngumoha’s current deal expires in 2028, the aforementioned report states discussions with his representatives are ongoing.

This development comes hot on the heels of The Athletic’s David Ornstein’s claim that Arsenal are among a number of clubs said to “like” the player.

“I think there is some interest from Arsenal in Rio Ngumoha,” Ornstein told The Athletic FC podcast. “There’s interest from a lot of clubs in him. I did hear over the summer that Arsenal like him.

“They are allowed to like him… it doesn’t mean Liverpool will sell him. They want to renew his contract.”

Manchester United have decided against making a move for Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January.

After a midfield overhaul in the summer, the expectation is for United to do the same in defence in future transfer windows. However, it would appear they also want to bolster their attacking options.

Calvert-Lewin has emerged as a potential target for the Red Devils, but are reporting there is nothing in the links with the recently-recalled England international.

Barnet boss Dean Brennan has opened the door for Dele Alli to train with the League Two leaders, insisting he would be “mad not to take him” if the former England midfielder wants a route back into football.

Dele, 30, has been using Barnet's training facilities to maintain his fitness as he searches for his next club after leaving Como last year.

Brennan revealed the doors are open for Dele to train with his squad and offered the midfielder the chance to use Barnet as a platform to rebuild his career.

“If I do a Harry Redknapp and pull him back in, like Paolo Di Canio, no issue whatsoever,” Brennan said.

“Everyone deserves a second chance in life. At our football club we have lots of lads that train with us that are out of contract and if Dele wants to come train with us the doors are open. He can use us to get fit and train with the group.”

Brennan was responding after Dele posted a video of him training at Barnet's facilities, where he has been working individually as he attempts to regain his sharpness.

And the latest job offer comes as Indian Super League team Odisha FC tweeted at GIF of Dele, prompting suggestions that the former England international could have already agreed his next move.

Manchester United have raided Manchester City for highly rated midfielder Karim Cassim — just weeks after seeing two of their own academy players move to Arsenal.

The 17-year-old has crossed the Manchester divide after leaving City's academy, with United completing the move after it was approved by the Premier League.

Cassim is regarded as one of the exciting young prospects in City's system and was part of their FA Youth Cup-winning side last season. The midfielder will now continue his development at Carrington as United look to add another potential first-team player to their academy ranks.

His arrival comes after United lost James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye to Arsenal earlier this summer.

Gabriel Martinelli "dreams of returning" to one of his former clubs - but it is not Arsenal.

The winger left the Gunners over the summer to join Al-Hilal in a £60million move, making him Arsenal's record sale.

Martinelli's contract in Saudi Arabia runs through to 2030, but his agent Marcos Casseb is already looking at the future beyond that.

Corinthians are the club Martinelli grew up supporting and he spent four years at the club's academy after joining at the age of six.

Asked if Martinelli wanted to return to Brazil before he retired, Casseb told Brazilian news outlet Itatiaia Esporte: "I think a little further down the line, yes.

"He has four years left on his contract there, until he's 29. He does dream of returning, playing for Corinthians, the club he left, his passion. He wants to come back someday.

"He has every chance of returning to the Brazilian national team. What he needs is to perform his football well."
