Arsenal make Julian Alvarez move
Arsenal also remain in pursuit of Julian Alvarez as they look to make a statement striker signing before the transfer deadline on September 1.
There have been all sorts of rumours swirling around Alvarez in recent days, including Barcelona reportedly ending their long-running chase for the Argentina international and moving on to other forward targets.
Arsenal don’t seem to have given up hope on Alvarez, though, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that they met with Atletico director Mateu Alemany in London to discuss the potential terms of a blockbuster transfer.
However, the price was said to be too high, with the former Manchester City star still apparently holding out for Barcelona.
Arsenal triple deal close after Konsa signing
Arsenal are set to follow the arrival of Ezri Konsa with a triple transfer deal in the next few days.
The Gunners announced the £55m arrival of England defender Konsa from Aston Villa ahead of last night’s Premier League curtain-raiser against newly-promoted Coventry, which they won 3-0.
But Arsenal aren’t stopping there, with understanding that a total package worth £3m has now been agreed with Blackburn for young striker Igor Tyjon, who will undergo a medical this weekend.
The same is true of Manchester United right-back Habeeb Ogunneye, who is moving to the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer that includes a 40 per cent sell-on clause.
Arsenal should also strike a deal for Ogunneye’s United team-mate James Scanlon very soon.

Gyokeres to Barcelona?
Arsenal supporters have been saying the same thing about Viktor Gyokeres following the 3-0 win over Coventry.
As the Premier League champions cruised to victory, it was notable that Viktor Gyokeres remained an unused substitute for only the fifth time for the Gunners as Havertz completed the full 90 minutes in north London.
The Sweden international was Arsenal’s leading scorer last season with 21 goals in all competitions, but has been linked with a move to Spain.
Earlier in the summer there had been talk of Gyokeres being used as makeweight in a swap deal for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, but more recently there has been talk of a Barcelona switch.
Amid claims that Gyokeres’ agent had been in Barcelona since Monday, his no-show against Coventry has prompted some Arsenal fans to suggest a transfer is on the cards.
Baleba set for Man Utd medical
Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.
reported earlier in the week that Man United were in active negotiations with Brighton to bring the 22-year-old to Old Trafford before the summer transfer window closes.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement in place between the two clubs for a deal worth £65million, including a further £5m in add-ons.
The Cameroon international has also been granted permission by Brighton to undergo a medical this weekend, though an ankle injury will delay his Man Utd debut by a few weeks at least.

Gary Neville makes Julian Alvarez to Arsenal prediction
The Gunners began the defence of their Premier League crown on Friday night, beating newly-promoted Coventry City 3-0 with Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard all on the scoresheet.
Ezri Konsa was presented to supporters prior to kick-off in north London after completing his £55million transfer from Aston Villa, though he is not expected to be the club’s final signing before the window closes.
Alvarez continues to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and there’s has been a fresh twist to the summer long saga as Atletico Madrid have reportedly softened their stance on selling the Argentina international.
It is claimed that Atletico have accepted that it is best that the 26-year-old leaves the club this summer and are ready to do business with Arsenal and Neville is of the opinion Mikel Arteta’s side should pursue a deal.

Jones explains Liverpool exit
Curtis Jones has spoken for the first time as an Inter Milan player.
"I'm a Liverpool lad, a Scouser, and I've spent my whole life there.
“But at this stage of my career, I wanted to take the next step, and I think this is the perfect club for me to do that."
Chelsea braced for Jackson bid
Chelsea are expecting Aston Villa to submit an offer for Nicolas Jackson.
According to the Telegraph, the Senegal international is valued at £65million by the Blues.
understands Chelsea are looking to offload several strikers this summer, with Jackson, Liam Delap and Marc Guiu subject of both loan and permanent interest.
Wright hits out at Arsenal
Ian Wright believes Arsenal should show more respect towards Gabriel Martinelli, stating the situation has left him feeling “uncomfortable”.
Martinelli was left out of the matchday squad for Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Coventry, as he also was for the Community Shield last weekend.
While the 25-year-old is not believed to be pushing to leave the Gunners this summer, it is understood that the club are open to selling him.
Galatasaray were said to be interested in a move, though Martinelli informed Arsenal he had no desire to move to Turkey.
It remains to be seen whether there is a resolution before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
Wright has hit out at his former club, accusing them of failing to communicate adequately with Martinelli.
Roberto De Zerbi has provided an update on the futures of three Tottenham players, Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Mikey Moore.
Sarr has had interest from Brentford this summer and is now the subject of a concerted effort to sign him by Turkish club Galatasaray.
He has suffered a hamstring injury in Spurs training that is understood not to be serious but which will keep him out of Tottenham’s Premier League opener away to Brentford on Saturday evening.
Bergvall has also been the subject of much transfer rumour this summer, while the 19-year-old winger Moore has been tipped for another loan exit from Tottenham.
De Zerbi was asked on Friday whether he could guarantee that Bergvall and Sarr would be at Tottenham after the transfer window closes on September 1.
