Didier Deschamps has reportedly rejected the opportunity to become Manchester United manager, with Sunday's trip to Aston Villa potentially crucial for under-pressure boss Michael Carrick. Arsenal told why Nusa will join them in £50m January transfer

Arsenal have been told they lead the race for Antonio Nusa ahead of a £50million January transfer battle for the RB Leipzig winger.

Former Norway midfielder Kristoffer Lokberg believes Nusa is now ready to make another step in his career and says Arsenal are the strongest option.

Speaking on NRK's Bakrommet podcast, via Sport Witness, he said: “He is one of the world’s most exciting left-wingers. We have been waiting for his potential to come to full bloom, but now it is exploding.

“Big clubs can no longer sit on the fence, they must act quickly before he disappears, or they will be left regretting it.”

Lokberg continued: “The completely obvious option in the Premier League is Arsenal.

“The player fits their playing style, and the club has a real need. They basically only have Tzolis and a slightly half-hearted Eberechi Eze as options on the left wing. I think Arsenal sit around every day, weighing whether to pull the trigger.”

Man Utd have new wildcard manager target with Carrick sack decision imminent

Manchester United are considering several candidates as they assess their options for the managerial position, but there are reservations about a number of the names linked with the job.

Eddie Howe has for some time been considered the frontrunner for the role, should Michael Carrick get sacked, but The Independent report that the former Newcastle manager is less highly regarded by Man Utd than other reports have suggested.

Julian Nagelsmann is the other highly prominent name, though his reputation has suffered following his time at Bayern Munich and with the Germany national team. Man Utd’s interest is said to be driven by the club’s recruitment chief, Christoph Vivell, but others are less convinced amid concerns over Nagelsmann's relationship with players during his time with the national team.

A new wildcard name in the frame is Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness, who his appointment would be considered another big gamble after the likes of Ruben Amorim failed spectacularly. The Independent also mention Brighton's Fabian Hurzeler, but it is feared he could find it difficult to replicate his success on the south coast should he move to Old Trafford.

Arsenal among admirers for Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki following his impressive start at Villa Park.

The 24-year-old Japan international has attracted interest from several European giants after arriving from Parma for £30m in the summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham are also monitoring Suzuki’s progress.

PSG previously considered signing him, while Real Madrid view him as a potential long-term successor to Thibaut Courtois.

However, Villa are under no pressure to sell, having tied the goalkeeper down to a five-year contract and viewing him as central to Unai Emery’s plans.

Tzolis hails Mosquera role in Arsenal settling

Christos Tzolis has hailed the role played by Cristhian Mosquera to help him acclimatise to life at Arsenal.

The Greek international signed for the Gunners back in the summer to replace Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli on the left flank.

He has hit the ground running since his £34million move from Club Brugge,as he returned to the English top flight for the first time since 2024, when he ended a fruitless three-year spell at Norwich City.

Now, after some impressive performances across all competitions, the winger has revealed the Arsenal star that has helped to settle him in London.

Man Utd handed transfer boost

Manchester United have been bolstered in their pursuit of a left-back.

The Red Devils have been hamstrung in that position this term, with natural options Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu both struck down with injuries that have kept them out for long spells.

As such, it has forced under-fire manager Michael Carrick to experiment with makeshift solutions in the interim, with right-backs Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui both depuitising there, while central defender Ayden Heaven has also been shifted out wide to cover with limited success.

Next Man Utd manager latest

Didier Deschamps has reportedly turned down an approach over the Manchester United manager’s job, as more details emerge over the future of Michael Carrick.

Carrick’s position at Old Trafford has been subject to severe scrutiny for several weeks now following a miserable eight-game winless run across all competitions that was the club’s worst since the 1988/89 season.

Such a dire sequence was only snapped on Tuesday night as Man Utd staged an incredible turnaround following an abysmal first half to beat depleted Roma 3-2 at home in the Champions League, though it remains to be seen how much respite that offered their beleaguered head coach.

Sky Sports report that there remains support for Carrick within the United hierarchy, who have been said to be split on a potential replacement amid strong links to the likes of former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe and ex-Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann.

JJ Gabriel to leave Man Utd for Real Madrid move

Real Madrid look to have won the race for Manchester United sensation JJ Gabriel.

The teenage star shocked Old Trafford chiefs back in September by stating his desire to leave the club immediately, just days before he was expected to make his senior debut aged just 15.

All of the rest of the heavyweight clubs across Europe were inevitably interested in signing one of the brightest youth talents in England, but Real Madrid and Barcelona quickly emerged as the front runners.

Madrid were said to be leading the race, with Fabrizio Romano now reporting that Gabriel has chosen the Bernabeu and that his camp have informed all parties of his decision.

The move is expected to be sealed soon, with Man Utd likely only due minimal training compensation.

Tottenham retain matching rights on Harry Kane

Tottenham retain matching rights on Harry Kane despite his new Bayern Munich contract, reports claim.

The England captain yesterday put pen to paper on a lucrative contract extension in Bavaria until 2029 that is said to make him the highest-paid player in Europe in terms of base salary.

That bumper new deal does not impact Tottenham’s first-option right to match any future bids for Kane, per The Telegraph.

That agreement was reached during his initial exit from Spurs in 2023 and is said to lie outside of his contract, so has been unaffected.

Didier Deschamps turns down Man Utd job offer

Didier Deschamps has reportedly told Manchester United that he is not interested in taking over as manager at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick’s future as Man Utd boss remains hugely uncertain ahead of Sunday’s crunch home Premier League clash with Aston Villa, which is likely to prove pivotal.

Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann had previously been considered as the leading candidates for the role if United - who will not consider an interim solution this time - were to sack Carrick, though FootMercato in France reported on Thursday that the club had also approached former long-time Les Bleus head coach Deschamps.

However, he is said to have told them that he currently has no interest in the job in another blow to the beleaguered Red Devils.

Arsenal target Antonio Nusa in potential triple deal

Arsenal are tracking Antonio Nusa ahead of the January transfer window, reports claim.

The Gunners are known to be keen on attacking reinforcements when the market reopens for business in the New Year and have reportedly had their eyes on Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi and Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz.

However, The Sun say that Arsenal are also keeping close tabs on former Club Brugge star Nusa, who continues to impress for both RB Leipzig and Norway.

Could a lucrative triple deal yet be in the offing at the Emirates Stadium after a somewhat disappointing summer?
