Joao Palhinha to Newcastle transfer latest
It looks like Joao Palhinha to Newcastle won’t be happening - not for now at least.
The Magpies appeared to had pivoted to the ex-Tottenham loanee as their new top midfield option to replace Bruno Guimaraes, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg choosing to remain at Marseille.
Newcastle looked to have potentially won the race for Palhinha on a permanent deal, with Aston Villa seeing a loan offer rejected by Bayern Munich.
However, The Telegraph now report that while the Portugal international has indeed been offered to Newcastle, there are currently no active talks and a deal is not expected to progress as things stand.
Sidiki Cherif undergoing Coventry medical
It’s turning out to be a big weekend on the transfer front for newly-promoted Coventry as the Championship winners prepare for their first Premier League season since 2001, which begins away to champions Arsenal on Friday night.
Frank Lampard is boosting his squad with the addition of Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi after a £17m deal was agreed with Nottingham Forest for the ex-Liverpool man.
Coventry are now closing in on another new signing, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Guinean striker Sidiki Cherif is undergoing a medical today ahead of a £20.5m switch from Fenerbahce to the Ricoh Arena.
Cherif only joined Fenerbahce from French club Angers in January on an initial loan deal that included an obligation to buy this summer, with Crystal Palace having seen a £17m bid for his services rejected before that switch.
Rio Ngumoha to agree new Liverpool contract
Liverpool are said to be closing in on a new contract agreement with Rio Ngumoha.
The 17-year-old sensation could have a huge role to play under new boss Andoni Iraola this term after shining at Anfield during a breakthrough campaign in 2025/26.
Ngumoha only signed his first professional deal with Liverpool last September after joining from Chelsea’s academy in the summer of 2024, though is already reported to be in talks over a significantly improved long-term extension.
According to TEAMtalk, an agreement is expected to be reached over the coming months.
Liverpool gaining in confidence over Bradley Barcola would also be good news for Tottenham and their well-documented chase for Cody Gakpo.
Spurs have been pushing to sign the Dutch forward as they also look to finally wrap up a deal for wantaway Manchester City winger Savinho - Roberto De Zerbi’s top attacking target,
TEAMtalk are now reporting that Tottenham are closing in on Gakpo after he informed Liverpool of his desire to make a switch which could cost in excess of £60m, while ESPN Brazil say Spurs will pay a whopping £85m for Savinho after he again reiterated his desire to also move to north London.

Liverpool move for Bradley Barcola 'alive' after update
Liverpool’s move for Bradley Barcola remains very much “alive”, new reports claim.
The Reds have been talking to Paris Saint-Germain for several weeks now regarding the French winger, whom they want to sign in a blockbuster deal as their ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah.
However, so far there has been no agreement, with the two clubs remaining far apart in their respective valuations of Barcola.
There were claims in France earlier this week that Liverpool had paused negotiations for Barcola until the final 10 days of the window, though Fabrizio Romano insists that talks remain ongoing.

Man Utd handed boost over Joaquin Seys
Manchester United look to have been handed a new boost in their pursuit of Joaquin Seys.
The Red Devils are said to be prioritising the addition of a left-back over a third new central midfielder before the September 1 deadline, though are now looking at alternatives to top target Lewis Hall as Newcastle refuse to sell.
One such option is Belgian international Seys, whom it is being suggested could leave Club Brugge for the right price.
Arsenal and Newcastle are among the other clubs linked with the 21-year-old defender, with the Gunners having already signed Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Brugge in this window.
Arsenal offered new Victor Osimhen hope
Victor Osimhen may just have left the door open to a potential move to Arsenal before the summer transfer deadline.
The Nigeria striker’s name is believed to have come up last week during discussions between the Gunners and Turkish giants Galatasaray involving Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.
Osimhen has been asked about those Arsenal rumours this weekend, saying: “There are always rumours in transfer seasons.
“I will take care of my business. I am focused on my job, then we will see and think further.”
However, reports in Turkey insist that Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has ruled out selling Osimhen at any price, with Tottenham and Manchester United also linked amid claims of a rejected offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal worth €130m.
Arsenal plot shock Jack Hinshelwood bid
Arsenal are set to make a shock bid for Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood, reports claim.
The England Under-21 international has emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Gunners, who are already said to have held talks with his representatives.
According to The Sun, Arsenal are now preparing an official offer for Hinshelwood, with Brighton believed to be demanding a fee between £43m-£51m for their highly-rated academy graduate.
However, Manchester United and Manchester City are also both said to be weighing up moves for the player.
Todibo nearing West Ham exit
Jean-Clair Todibo seems to be slowly approaching a move away from West Ham.
Reports in France suggest he has agreed personal terms over a loan to Marseille.
Olympique are yet to open club-to-club talks with West Ham, though, and he will not be able to move to Marseille before other outgoings have been agreed.

Liverpool 'ready new Bradley Barcola bid' as transfer hopes boosted after £47m deal confirmed
Liverpool are reportedly set to lodge a new bid for Arsenal target Bradley Barcola next week with renewed confidence after Paris Saint-Germain signed Mika Godts.
The Reds have been embroiled in protracted talks for the player throughout the summer as they look to add firepower to Andoni Iraola’s front line.
It is thought that talks have been slowed by a difference of opinion regarding the player’s valuation, with PSG standing firm on a price tag around £145m.
It was reported by The Athletic last week that Liverpool were almost ready to turn their attention to new targets.
However, there is hope for the Reds after PSG confirmed the signing of Godts in a deal which could be worth as much as £47m.
