A vocal Donald Trump critic has claimed she has been targeted by the US President after her home was raided by federal agents.

Ilhan Omar, who is the upcoming Democratic congressional candidate for Minnesota, saw her home being searched in connection with an ‘ongoing federal criminal investigation’. No other details were immediatly available, and she has not been arrested.

She posted on X: ‘I’m ok.

‘Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponise federal law enforcement.

‘For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.

‘I will not be silenced.’

Federal agents were searching the home of the Democrat rival, a startling escalation in a criminal investigation that brings renewed scrutiny to the frequent target of Trump administration derision in the final weeks of her reelection bid.

The search of the Minnesota congresswoman’s home so close to next month’s midterm contests that will determine control of the House raised questions about the timing given longstanding Justice Department protocol to avoid overt investigative steps involving political candidates in the direct run-up to an election.

The investigation into Ilhan Omar is nicknamed ‘World War Eleven’ within Trump’s inner cicleafter she misread WWII as World War Eleven in a press conference, according to the Washington Post.

The Somali-born Democrat’s status as an immigrant and her progressive views have repeatedly drawn criticism from Republicans. She is part of ‘The Squad’ a progressive group of Democrats who take on the US President.

Allegations regarding Omar’s immigration history have circulated in conservative circles for years with no substantial evidence.

Omar fled Somalia’s civil war as a young girl, before spending four years in a Kenyan refugee camp and immigrating to the United States aged 12.

She became a naturalised citizen in 2000 and was elected to Congress in 2018.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said last month that there was an ‘ongoing investigation’ related in part to whether Omar lied on her immigration forms and that ‘something’s going to happen.’

War of words

Trump as recently as this past weekend brought up Omar at a rally in Tennessee, where he attacked her upbringing and suggested that Vice President JD Vance ‘and our people’ were investigating her

Omar has called the President ‘ a national embarrassment’ in the past. Trump hit back saying at a black-tie event at the White House: ‘She’s a low-IQ person, and she’s also a very dishonest person. She oughta get the hell out of our country. She shouldn’t be here.’

She also said: ‘Trump is who needs to get the hell out of our country because he is destroying it and making us the laughing stock of the world.’
