Two people have been charged with making threats to kill after three "small homemade explosive devices" were found at a house.
Essex Police made the discovery after forcing entry to a home in Sawyers Grove, Brentwood, on Friday morning.
It led to 40 properties being evacuated and a 100m (328ft) cordon being imposed in the area.
Thomas Walker, 43, and Yolanda-Tony King, 48, both of Sawyers Grove, have been charged with criminal damage and making threats to kill, and were due before magistrates in Basildon on Monday. Police said investigations into the suspicious items were continuing.
The items were described as "small homemade explosive devices" by the force on Friday.
"Inquiries relating to the suspicious items recovered from the address remain ongoing," a police spokesman said.
Officers made the discovery while responding to reports of a disturbance at the property at about 07:20 GMT.
Residents who were forced to leave their homes were given refuge at the King George's Playing Fields pavilion while detectives worked at the scene.
Walker is accused of three counts of criminal damage, while King has been charged with two of those offences and an additional count of harassment.
