Billy Watson, 35, was found injured and died at the scene.

Frank McCarthy, 57, appeared at Livingston Sheriff Court on Friday, charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

Detectives previously said they were also investigating whether a nearby car fire in Netherhouses and a fire at a derelict house on Wotherspoon Crescent on Saturday were linked to the incident.

Uniformed officers were seen in the Netherhouses area where the car was set ablaze. A cordon was also put in place on Wotherspoon Crescent.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said nobody was injured in the fires.
