West Ham handed injury boost in behind-closed-doors friendly as result and scorers revealed

All smiles: Nuno Espirito Santo watched on as West Ham beat Wycombe 2-0 at Rush Green

Tomas Soucek scored on his return from an ankle injury as West Ham beat Wycombe 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Friday.

Soucek has been out of action since the end of June after sustaining a blow to his left ankle during the Czech Republic's final World Cup group game against co-hosts Mexico.

The 31-year-old has since been eased back to fitness by West Ham and has yet to feature for the club in a competitive fixture this season.

However, he started for the first time in over three months and played 65 minutes against third-tier Wycombe on Friday (October 2), opening the scoring from the penalty spot before striker Joel Piroe later doubled West Ham’s lead at their Rush Green training ground.

Second-place West Ham return to Championship action next Friday night at home to London rivals QPR as they look to further underline their promotion credentials after fighting back from 2-0 down to draw with arch-rivals Millwall before the extended three-week international break, with a four-game league winning streak snapped.

Elsewhere on Friday, Brentford continued their preparations for the return of competitive club football as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Norwich in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Keane Lewis-Potter and Fabio Carvalho, who has been in fine form since returning from an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this month, were both on the scoresheet for the Bees.

Keith Andrews’ side have made an impressive unbeaten start to the new season and travel to Aston Villa next weekend, looking to make it six games without defeat in the Premier League.

Igor Thiago, Callum Wilson, Rico Henry and Jaidon Anthony also featured against Championship opponents Norwich, and Brazilian striker Thiago thought he had won the match for Brentford late on, only to be denied by the offside flag.
