Bruno Guimaraes is set to make his Arsenal debut this week.

The Brazilian was officially unveiled to the fans on Sunday, walking out onto the pitch to a big reception ahead of the Emirates Cup clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Guimaraes then watched from the sidelines as his new team-mates were beaten 3-2 in their first home match of the summer.

Speaking after the match, Mikel Arteta emphasised just how much of an impact he expects Guimaraes to have on the squad.

"We see very clearly, especially the energy that he brought immediately to the training ground, the hunger, the desire to come here and create a big history at the club," Arteta said.

"And that's the ambition that we need. We want to go to the next level and very, very much convinced that we're going to need players with such a personality, desire and character to push everybody inside the organisation to go even higher."

Asked how Guimaraes will contribute once he starts playing, Arteta added: "On the pitch, versatility to play in two different positions in relation to what the opponent or we do.

"A player who obviously has tremendous timing and intuition to win the ball back and progress play very, very fast. He's a player that is very comfortable putting people through, pulling between the lines, pulling behind.

"And then he's a goal threat. He's got a smell and a really good timing to get in the box and he has the capacity to finish the actions."

Guimaraes started training with the Arsenal squad last week, though it was decided that he was not ready to feature against Dortmund.

The midfielder had an extended break after Brazil's exit from the World Cup, meaning he has had a limited pre-season.

Guimaraes joined up briefly with Newcastle for their training camp in La Manga, though that was largely to say his goodbyes to the players and staff before completing the move to Arsenal.

His training stepped up at the end of last week at London Colney and will continue to do so in the coming days.

It is expected that he will be in the Arsenal squad for their final pre-season match against Como on Wednesday night in north London.

Any minutes are likely to be limited as Arsenal manage Guimaraes' fitness.

When Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres joined up late after the World Cup and then made their first appearances of pre-season, they played only 30 minutes.

Guimaraes could then play a more significant role against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, setting him up for the Premier League opener against Coventry five days later.

The Brazilian's availability is important for Arteta, who is short of midfield options and has seen his side struggle in their last two pre-season matches.

Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino are only this week joining up with the squad again having had three weeks off after the World Cup.
