Harry Kane is closing in on one of the most significant records in English football.
The England captain currently has 124 international appearances, leaving him just one short of Peter Shilton’s long-standing record of 125 caps for the men’s national team.
Shilton’s mark has stood since 1990, but Kane will surpass they record in a matter of weeks.
First though, he will match Shilton’s record tonight against Czech Republic and then the wait will be on for the 126th cap.
When will Kane become England’s record appearance holder?
Kane would not have to wait long to stand alone at the top.
Of course, that timeline depends on Kane remaining fit. There will be another opportunity three days later away against Spain.
Who are England’s most-capped players?
Shilton accumulated his 125 England appearances across an international career spanning two decades.
Since his final appearance after the 1990 World Cup, several England greats have passed the 100-cap mark, including David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney.
Even if Kane reaches 126 appearances, he would not be England’s most-capped player across the men’s and women’s teams.
Several Lionesses have accumulated significantly more caps. Fara Williams leads the combined list with 172 appearances, while Jill Scott, Lucy Bronze, Karen Carney, Alex Scott, Casey Stoney and Rachel Yankey are also ahead of Kane’s current target.
