Manchester United take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this evening.

The Red Devils come into this fixture off a stuttering start to their Premier League campaign, Michael Carrick’s first as the club’s permanent head coach.

His side sit 12th in the English top flight, and they were pegged back late on last time out by Tottenham, who stole a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford over the weekend.

Dominic Solanke netted a stoppge-time equaliser in the second half to salvage a share of the spoils for Roberto De Zerbi’s 10-man Spurs, who had had Rodrigo Bentancur given his marching orders for a headbutt on United left-back Luke Shaw.

Bryan Mbeumo had given Carrick’s hosts the lead on 73 minutes with an arrowed finish into the corner, but they were denied all three points by a spirited Spurs fightback.

Now, they travel to the Spanish capital to face Diego Simeone’s Atleti, and the La Liga outfit arrive second in the Spanish league, with six wins, a draw and a defeat from their first eight games.
