Rio Ngumoha has been left out of England’s squad to face Spain at Wembley Stadium tonight.

The Three Lions are back on the pitch for the first time since beating France in a thrilling bronze-medal match at the World Cup, and have their work cut out for them as they face the champions from the summer’s tournament.

It has already been a hectic camp for Thomas Tuchel and England, with five men, including Arsenal’s Declan Rice, pulling out of the squad, citing injuries and load management.

Liverpool’s 18-year-old wonderkid Ngumoha was one of the lucky 27 to be called up after he made his senior debut in a pre-World Cup friendly against New Zealand.

But he will play no part against Spain, having been left out of the matchday squad altogether.

He seems to have fallen foul of UEFA regulations, which hold Tuchel can only name 23 men to his matchday squad.

There was a squad of 24 in training ahead of the Spain clash, meaning the German was forced to axe one member of his team. Ngumoha is the unlucky man left out.

It is hoped Tuchel will explain his decision when he undertakes media duties ahead of kick-off.

There will be plenty more opportunities for Ngumoha to impress in this international break, though, with England facing three more Nations League matches - two against Czechia and one against Croatia.

The youngster has made a lively start to the Premier League campaign, featuring regularly for Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool. He is yet to score or assist a goal in five appearances this season, though.
