Why Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off as tempers flared in Man Utd vs Tottenham

Tottenham’s dismal start to the season went from bad to worse on Saturday as Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for headbutting Manchester United’s Luke Shaw.
Spurs headed to Old Trafford winless in the Premier League and sitting bottom of the table and endured another frustrating afternoon.
They created plenty of chances but failed to make the most of them, and frustrations intensified when Bryan Mbeumo put United 1-0 up with just over a quarter of an hour to play.
Tensions boiled over, then, as Bentancur and Shaw came to blows following some crunching sliding tackles.
The United left-back shoved his Tottenham counterpart in retribution for two full-blooded tackles - one against Shaw and the other against Cunha - after the play was blown dead. Bentancur allowed himself to get carried away as he headbutted Shaw in response.
A full-blown melee ensued and Bentancur ultimately saw red for violent conduct. Shaw escaped with a booking, as did Jan Paul van Hecke.

“The lack of discipline at this stage of the game for Roberto De Zerbi is just not what he needs,” said Gary Neville on Sky Sports.
His assessment seemed fair as Tottenham stared down the barrel of another grim defeat, but a late equaliser from Dominic Solanke ensured the points were shared.
The result will at least lift Tottenham off the floor of the Premier League, with the one point enough to take them 18th in the table, clear of Coventry on goal difference and one point ahead of Fulham, who now prop up the table after their defeat at Ipswich.
