A woman seen visiting the grave of a baby girl who was found dead more than 30 years ago could help police uncover what happened to the child.
Kent Police said a woman visited the grave of Baby April in Ashford in June and appeared to be distressed.
The newborn was found dead at Singleton Lake on 3 April 1995, triggering an extensive murder investigation. Detectives believe she died from asphyxiation.
Police have released a computer-generated image of the woman seen visiting the graveside. "We believe it is important to find the truth behind this tragic story and this woman might have information which could assist us in finding that," Det Ch Insp Neil Kimber said.
He said the child was thought to have been born between 25 March and 3 April 1995 and weighed 7lb.
Her body was found wrapped in a Kleenex tissue bag inside a Motaworld carrier bag.
"Despite ongoing enquiries since that time, her parents and true identity to this date have never been found," he said.
Baby April was named after the month in which she was born.
Body exhumed for DNA
In May 2011, police exhumed Baby April's body at Bybrook Cemetery to gain a full DNA profile before she was reburied.
However, the DNA sample did not lead to a breakthrough and the case remains unsolved.
Officers said the woman visited the grave between 14:00 and 15:00 BST on Sunday 21 June.
She is described as white, in her 40s, no taller than 5ft 7in (1.7m), of medium to slim build, with a pale complexion. She had shoulder-length grey hair and was wearing a grey short cardigan, black leggings and trainers.
Police said she was also carrying a small shoulder bag and a floral-patterned fabric holdall, worn across her body.
