A man in his 80s has died following a house fire in north London.

About 40 firefighters tackled the blaze on Granville Road in Wood Green on Saturday night.

The blaze ripped through the two-storey terraced house, destroying the whole of the first floor and half of the roof.

One woman left the house before London Fire Brigade arrived. A man sadly died at the scene.

An LFB spokesperson said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Tottenham, Hornsey, Edmonton and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

“The Brigade’s Control Office took the first call at 2215 and the fire was under control by 2330.”

The cause of the fire will be investigated by the brigade and the Metropolitan Police.

A police spokesman said: “Officers attended to support the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.

“Sadly, a man in his 80s died at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed and continue to be supported.

“Specialist Met officers are currently supporting the London Fire Brigade to investigate the circumstances around the fire.”
